Roy Dikeman Chapin (1880-1936), served as U.S. Secretary of Commerce under President Herbert Hoover from 1932-1933. A founder of the automaker Thomas-Detroit (later Chalmers-Detroit), Chapin was one of the co-founders of Hudson Motor Co. in 1909 (the first car was produced in 1910). He served as President of Hudson Motor Co. from 1912 (following the death of J.L. Hudson) until 1923, when he retired as President to become Chairman of the Board. Chapin served in this capacity until his death in 1936.
