ROY ROGERS
Born: November 05, 1911 in Cincinnati, Ohio
Died: July 06, 1998 in Apple Valley, California
Roy Rogers was born on November 5, 1911, in Cincinnati, Ohio and he was an American singer, actor, and television host, best known for his roles in Western films and for his title as the “King of the Cowboys.” Rogers died on July 6, 1998, in Apple Valley, California.
Rogers began his entertainment career in the 1930s as a member of the musical group the Sons of the Pioneers. The group gained popularity for Western-themed songs such as “Tumbling Tumbleweeds” and “Cool Water.” His success in music led to a film contract with Republic Pictures, where he adopted the stage name Roy Rogers in 1938. From the late 1930s through the 1950s, Rogers starred in numerous Western films, often portraying a heroic, singing cowboy. His breakout role came in Under Western Stars (1938). He appeared in over 80 films, frequently alongside his horse Trigger and his dog Bullet.
In 1947, Rogers married actress and singer Dale Evans, with whom he co-starred in many films and television shows. The couple became well known for their work on The Roy Rogers Show, which aired on television from 1951 to 1957. The show featured Rogers, Evans, Trigger, and Bullet, and included Western-themed stories and musical performances.
Rogers and Evans were also noted for their humanitarian work and advocacy of adoption. They raised a large family, including several adopted children, and were vocal supporters of Christian values and family life. Roy Rogers was inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame twice—once as a member of the Sons of the Pioneers and again as a solo artist. He received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for both his film and radio contributions.
