Biography
Rudy Vallee was a prominent American singer, actor, bandleader, and radio host born on July 28, 1901 in Island Pond, Vermont. He rose to fame in the late 1920s as one of the first modern pop stars. Known for his distinctive "crooning" vocal style, he was widely popular among teenage girls, a phenomenon that was new to the music industry at the time. Vallee was best remembered for leading the Connecticut Yankees, an orchestra with which he created numerous hits including "Deep Night", "Marie", and "As Time Goes By". His soft vocal delivery was a major influence on later crooners like Bing Crosby.
In addition to his musical career, Vallee was also a successful actor and radio personality. His radio program, "The Rudy Vallee Show", ran from 1929 to 1939 and was highly influential in the format's early years. He also appeared in a number of films including "The Vagabond Lover" and "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying".
