Biography
Simon Cameron (1799-1889), was Senator from Pennsylvania (Democrat, 1845-1849; Republican, 1857-1861, 1867-1877) and, during the American Civil War, Lincoln's Secretary of War (1861-1862). He was also a candidate for the Republican presidential nomination in 1860, which Lincoln won on the third ballot.
