SIR NEVILL MOTT
Born: September 30, 1905
Nevill Mott (1905-1996) of Cambridge University shared the 1977 Nobel Prize in Physics for his "fundamental theoretical investigations of the electronic structure of magnetic and disordered systems". He studied the semi-conducting qualities of glassy substances. Mott was the first Chairman (1963) of the British Pugwash Group, an association of scientists looking for ways to avert nuclear war.
