Biography | show moreshow less
Thomas Henry Cotton (1907-1987), coupled a taste for the high-life with a obsession for accuracy and a relentless work ethic; he reportedly practiced until his hands bled. He won the British Open three times (1934, 1937 and 1948), his first win breaking United States' long dominance over that tournament, and as well as 11 other European Tour matches. He was also captain of the British Ryder Cup team in 1947 and 1953. After retiring from golf, he wrote about it. His books on the game include Studying the Golf Game (1964), A History of Golf (1973) and Thanks for the Game (1980). Cotton was inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame in 1980 and was knighted in 1988.
