Biography
Sir Walter Scott (1771-1832) is considered to be the "father of the historical novel". His works include Waverly (1814), Rob Roy (1818), Ivanhoe(1819), Kenilworth (1821) and The Talisman (1825) as well as the narrative poem, The Lady of the Lake. When Scott's authorship, which had been suspected but not proven, became known, he became the first British novelist to become a public figure. Scott was created a baronet in 1820.
