Suzan Ball (1934-1955), a second cousin of Lucille Ball embarked on a promising film career with supporting roles in several adventure films from 1952 to 1955 (Yankee Buccanneer, War Arrow, Chief Crazy Horse). Diagnosed with cancer in 1953, she lost a leg to amputation, but married actor Richard Long and resumed her career. She succumbed to her illness at age 21. A vocalist with Mel Baker's orchestra before going to Hollywood, the intrepid Ball embarked on a nightclub tour shortly before her death.
