Died: December 16, 1935 in Pacific Palisades, California
Thelma Todd (1906-1935), the beautiful blonde comedienne with memorable roles in Horse Feathers and Monkey Business with the Marx Brothers and Bohemian Girl and Swiss Miss with Laurel and Hardy, was found dead in her parked car of carbon monoxide poisoning at the age of 30 in circumstances that remain mysterious to this day. (Despite an official ruling of suicide, circumstantial evidence has persuaded many that she was murdered.) In the decade before her untimely death, Todd made no fewer than 119 films (including many shorts). When called upon, she could play dramatic roles too, like treacherous widow Iva Archer in the 1931 version of The Maltese Falcon.
