Thomas Hearns, born on October 18, 1958, in Memphis, Tennessee, is a legendary American boxer celebrated for his significant achievements in the sport. Known for his aggressive style and powerful punching, Hearns became a prominent figure in boxing, earning the nickname "The Hitman" and "Motor City Cobra."
Hearns' boxing journey began at an early age when he moved to Detroit and started training at the King Solomon Gym at age 10. After his coach left, Hearns joined Emanuel Steward’s Kronk Gym, where he developed his formidable boxing skills. His amateur career was outstanding, amassing an impressive 155-8 record and being named 1977’s Most Outstanding National Amateur Boxer.
Turning professional, Hearns' career spanned from the 1970s to the 2000s. His remarkable skill in the ring led him to win world titles in an unprecedented five weight classes, including welterweight and light middleweight. In 1987, he made history by becoming the first boxer to win world titles in four weight divisions. Throughout his career, Hearns accumulated six world titles and two continental titles, making him one of the most successful and famous boxers in Detroit's history, second only to Joe Louis.
