Biography
Former Unitarian Minister Thomas Higginson was a colonel in the first Negro regiment in the Union Army from 1862-1864. He wrote about his experiences in Army Life in a Black Regiment (1870). Also an advocate of women's rights, in 1855 Reverend Higginson presided over the marriage of Henry B. Blackwell and suffragist Lucy Stone.
