Biography
Thor Heyerdahl (1914-2002) made a series of oceanic expeditions that explained the spread of early civilizations. His most famous exploit was in 1947 when he organized and led the Kon-Tiki expedition with a crew of five. He sailed a balsa-wood raft from Peru across 4,300 miles of open ocean to test his hypothesis that aboriginal South Americans could have settled in the Pacific Islands.
