TIGER WOODS
Born: December 30, 1975 in Cypress, California
Tiger Woods (b. 1975), a child prodigy coached by his father, putted against Bob Hope on the Mike Douglas show at age 2. He broke 80 for the first time at age 8, won six Junior World Golf Championships, and was a first-team All-American at Stanford University. Turning pro in 1997, Woods won 71 PGA Tour events through 2009, including 14 Majors. He was PGA Player of the Year 10 times. Woods was only the fifth player to win all four of golf's major tournaments, as well as the youngest. Woods has four wins in the Masters (1997, 2001, 2002 and 2005) and the PGA Championship (1999, 2002, 2006 and 2007) as well as three wins in the U. S. Open (2000, 2002 and 2008) and the British Open (2000, 2005 and 2006) Due in large measure to Woods' long drives, championship courses began adding yard to their holes, a procedure nicknamed "Tiger-proofing." Based on his winnings but even more on his endorsements, Woods became the world's wealthiest sportsman. The years since 2010 have been rough for Tiger, following disclosure of multiple infidelities and a resulting divorce. He skipped most tournaments to focus on his personal life, and made a disappointing return at the Masters. He also lost his ranking as the world's #1 golfer.
