Tyrone Power was born on May 5, 1914, in Cincinnati, Ohio and he was an American film and stage actor .
Power came from a theatrical family; his father, Tyrone Power Sr., was a well-known stage and silent film actor. After studying acting and gaining early experience in theater, Power moved to Hollywood and made his first credited film appearance in Girls’ Dormitory (1936). His breakthrough came with the 1936 film Lloyd’s of London, which led to a long-term contract with 20th Century Fox.
He was known for leading roles in costume dramas and adventure films. Some of his most prominent performances include The Mark of Zorro (1940), Blood and Sand (1941), The Black Swan (1942), Captain from Castile (1947), and Prince of Foxes (1949). He was also cast in dramatic roles in films such as The Razor’s Edge (1946) and the noir classic Nightmare Alley (1947).
During World War II, Power enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1942. He served as a pilot in the Pacific Theater, flying cargo and personnel and eventually attaining the rank of captain. He returned to Hollywood in 1946. In addition to his film career, Power was active in the theater. He appeared on Broadway and in national tours in productions such as Mister Roberts, John Brown’s Body, and Back to Methuselah. At the time of his death, he was filming Solomon and Sheba in Spain and died from a heart attack during production. He was 44 years old.
