Biography
Van Heflin (1910-1971), made his film debut in A Woman Rebels (1936), opposite Katharine Hepburn, with whom he co-starred on Broadway in The Philadelphia Story. He earned an Oscar as Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Johnny Eager (1941). The following year he portrayed President Andrew Johnson in Tennessee Johnson. Other well remembered roles included The Prowler (1951) and Shane (1953). His last major role was that of a suicide bomber in Airport (1970).
