Biography
Walter "Fritz" Mondale served as U.S. Senator from Minnesota succeeding Hubert H. Humphrey who had resigned to become LBJ's Vice President. Mondale resigned as Senator to become Carter's Vice President (1977-1981). He was the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for Vice President in 1980 and for President in 1984, losing to President Reagan, 525-13 electoral votes. Mondale later served as U.S. Ambassador to Japan (1993-1996).
