Psychology researcher Virginia Eshelman Johnson (1925-2013) teamed up with gynecologist William Howell Masters to study human sexuality. The pair, who published Human Sexual Response (1966) and Human Sexual Inadequacy (1970), were married from 1971-1993, the year that Masters retired from the St. Louis clinic that the couple had founded to treat sexual problems.
