Biography | show moreshow less
Abel (1898-1987, born in St. Paul, Minnesota) was an American actor with over 80 TV shows and films and over 40 Broadway appearances to his credit between 1918 and 1985. Abel made his name playing well-groomed but barely restrained professional man, mostly in top supporting roles, and his dignity lent well to his appearances in Eugene O'Neill's plays. Among his notable screen appearances were as D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers (1935), the newspaper editor in Arise My Love (1940), as Bing Crosby and Fred Astaire's hapless agent in Holiday Inn (1942) and Charles Calvin, a philanthropist who falls off a skyscraper to his death, in Mirage (1966).
