Will Hay (1888-1949) got his show biz start in the United Kingdom's music halls in 1909. One of his characters was an incompetent schoolmaster, one that he played for the rest of his life and that he carried into film and radio. Hay appeared in 19 films between 1934 and 1943, often with comedic foils Graham Moffatt and Moore Marriott. He also starred in the weekly British radio program The Will Hay Programme in 1944.
