Willi Soukop (1907-1995) was the son of a Moravian (Czech) shoemaker, who disappeared after his horrific experiences during the First World War, forcing Soukop to being working in a factory at a very early age. He would attended evening classes at the arts and crafts school in Vienna, before being accepted into the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. Soukop met and English woman in 1934 who invited him to England, where he lived in a Devon studio and taught at the Dartington Art School, the Blundell's School, and the Chelsea Art College. A member of the Royal Academy, he taught as a Master of Sculpture as well as exhibited at the Academy.
