William Bendix (1906-1964), starred on Broadway and in films, but he was best known as Chester A. Riley, a riveter at Stevenson Aircraft Company in Los Angeles, on the NBC television series, The Life of Riley (1953-1958). Bendix, who had played the part on radio, later starred in the pilot of Rod Serling's The Twilight Zone.
