William Edward Simon (1927-2000) was Secretary of the Treasury from 1974-1977, serving under Presidents Nixon and Ford. Previously Deputy Secretary of the Treasury (1973-1974), Simon was an astute businessman both before and after his public service, serving on the boards of over 30 prestigious companies. He was also a long-time member of the U.S. Olympic Committee, serving as Treasurer from 1977-1981 and as President during the 1984 Olympic Games. In recognition of his efforts, Simon was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1991. His son, Bill, was a candidate for the Republican nomination for Governor in California in 2002.
