Yvonne De Carlo was born on September 1, 1922, in Vancouver, British Columbia and she was a Canadian-American actress known for her work in film, television, and stage.
She began her career in the early 1940s with small film roles before gaining attention with the lead in Salome, Where She Danced (1945), which established her as a Universal Pictures star. Throughout the late 1940s and 1950s, De Carlo appeared in numerous Technicolor adventure films, often cast in exotic or period roles. Notable performances during this period include Song of Scheherazade (1947), Criss Cross (1949) with Burt Lancaster, and The Captain’s Paradise (1953). She also portrayed Sephora, the wife of Moses, in Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments (1956), one of her most recognized roles.
In the 1960s, De Carlo transitioned successfully into television. She became widely known for her role as Lily Munster in the CBS sitcom The Munsters (1964–1966), which brought her lasting fame. She reprised the character in later TV films and guest appearances. Her television work included guest roles on series such as Bonanza, The Virginian, and Murder, She Wrote.
