Buckner.In part: "Whereas, said Lake and Luellen have entered into an agreement...respecting the financing of a New Corporation to acquire license under certain Lake patents...If...$25,000 is raised...then the parties hereto agree to co-operate in the further sale of the securities contemplated to be sold by said New Corporation for the purpose of raising $1,000,000...."Also signed: "Lawrence W. Luellen" and "J.M. Buckner".Inspired by Jules Verne's, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under The Sea, Simon Lake (1866-1945) designed a submarine and submitted plans to the U.S. Navy in 1892. In 1894 he built his first experimental submarine, The Argonaut, Jr., which was successfully demonstrated at Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. The success led to the formation in 1895 of the Lake Submarine Company of New Jersey, which built the Argonaut, the first submarine to operate successfully in the open sea in 1898. Lightly creased. Horizontal folds do not touch signatures. 2, tack head-size holes in blank areas of signature page. Light fastener impressions at blank lower margin of signature page. Rust fastener stains on docket cover. Overall, fine condition.
