A letter from the actor thanking the recipient for a previously sent
letter that was very complimentary
Typed letter signed: "Alan Bates.", 1p, 8½x11. No place,
1972 November 14. To Mr. Albert B. Manski, Boston, Mass. In full:
"Thank you for the May 1972, Show Magazine article, together with your very
complimentary letter of October 18th. As per your request I am enclosing an
autographed photo of myself. Wishing you a successful future." Photograph
not present. In 1972, Bates appeared in one feature film, A Day in the
Death of Joe Egg. Sir Alan Bates (1934-2003) established himself as a
powerful screen presence, beginning in the 1960s with such films as Zorba the
Greek (1964), The Fixer (his only Oscar nomination, as Best Actor,
1969) and Women in Love (1969). His other films include Gosford
Park (2000) and The Sum of All Fears (2002). Bates also won two
Tony Awards for Best Actor in a Play, in 1973 for Butley and 2002 for
Fortune's Fool. He was awarded with a knighthood in the Queens' New
Year's Eve 2002 Honours List. Lightly creased with folds, not at signature.
