ALEC GUINNESS. Photograph signed: "Alec Guinness". B/w,
10¼x8. Still from the 1965 Academy Award-winning film, Dr. Zhivago, in
which Guinness played Yevgraf. He is depicted with actress Rita Tushingham,
who was billed simply as "The Girl". The film also starred Omar Sharif, Julie
Christie, Tom Courteney, Geraldine Chaplin and Rod Steiger. Cast in
Shakespearean roles in Sir John Gielgud's company (from 1934), Alec Guiness
(1914-2000) appeared in the stage and screen versions of Dickens' Great
Expectations (1939, 1946). He portrayed eight members of one family in
Kind Hearts and Coronets (1949). Winner of the Best Actor Academy
Award for The Bridge on the River Kwai (1957), the versatile Sir Alec
later portrayed such figures as Arabian Prince Faisal, Roman Emperor Marcus
Aurelius, English King Charles I, Adolph Hitler and Sigmund Freud, not to
mention Marley's Ghost. He was also seen as Obi Wan Kenobi in the first Star
Wars trilogy (1977-1983). Creased at upper right background. Minor surface
creases (most not evident head on). Pencil notes (unknown hand) and label on
verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
