to the Pa[cut off]/Anthony Carlisle", 4¼x2¼, irregularly cut and affixed to
4½x3½ card. Plastic material over both pieces, taped at margins. Typed biography
affixed at upper margin. Sir Anthony Carlisle (1768-1840), an English surgeon
and Fellow of the Royal Academy, introduced the thin-bladed, straight-edged
amputating knife. He wrote on artistic and general scientific subjects as well
as on medicine. Minor diagonal crease at the lower portion of the "A" in
Anthony. Slightly soiled. Fine condition.
