The Oxford Book of English Verse anthologist sends his
autograph to a fan in black ink
Autograph letter signed: "Arthur Quiller-Couch" in black ink.
1 page, 3¾x6. February 2, 1911. The Haven, Fowey, Cornwall, England. Addressed
to Miss Marcia Gayle Fee. In full: "Dear Madam, I send you with
pleasure the signature you require. Believe me, Faithfully yours". Sir
Arthur Thomas Quiller-Couch (1863-1944) was a British writer who
published most of his work under the title "Q", and is best known for his
anthology Oxford Book of English Verse (1250-1900)
(1900), and for his literary criticism, which guided many prominent
authors of the day such as Helene Hanff and John Mortimer. His own works
include fictions such as Dead Man's Rock (1887), The Blue
Pavilons (1891), The Adventures of Harry Revel (1903) and
True Tilda (1909), verse books Green Bays (1893) and
Poems and Ballads (1896), plus multiple anthologies. Quiller-Couch
was knighted in 1910, and in 1912 was appointed King Edward VII professor of
English literature at Cambridge and simultaneous elected fellow of Jesus
College. Normal mailing folds. Toned. Stains throughout. Creased throughout.
Left edge frayed. Adhesive stains and slight tears on verso. Otherwise, fine
condition.
