Bob Charles signs an official scorecard from the 8th United States Senior Open Championship.
Official Scorecard signed: "Bob Charles" in pencil as Competitor, 4p, 6x3½. Fairfield, Connecticut, 1987 July 12. Charles' scorecard for Round 4 of the 8th United States Senior Open Championship, held July 9-12, 1987 at the Brooklawn Country Club. Also signed by a Marker and initialed "DF" as verified at the 18th hole. Charles scored a 76 for the 18 holes; 35 on the front nine and 41 on the back nine. The tournament was won by Gary Player, whose 270 beat the previous record by nine strokes. Left-handed golfer Bob Charles (born in New Zealand in 1936) has had six PGA Tour victories, including the British Open (1963), which he describes as the greatest thrill of his career, and won 23 Champions Tour championships, including the Vintage Chrysler Invitational, the GTE Classic and the Sunwest-Charley Pride Classic, which he won in 1987, the year he played in this tournament. Charles, who has designed two golf courses (the 18-hole Millbrook and Matarangi, a nine-hole course) in New Zealand, was knighted in 1999. Folds, light vertical fold touches the "C" of Charles. Lightly soiled at lower left corner of signature page, diagonal ink mark at printed text at upper left margin. Overall, fine condition.
