ELTON JOHN. Pass signed: "Elton John". Color, 2¾x4, affixed to paper backing of same size. Cloth VIP pass for the "Elton John Band" reunion concert in New York's Central Park on September 13, 1980. Some 400,000 fans gathered on the Great Lawn for the famous free concert. The apartment window of John's friend, John Lennon (Elton was the godfather of Lennon's son, Sean), overlooked the site. Lennon would be murdered in front of his apartment building just three months after this concert. British pop superstar Elton John (b. 1947) won the 1994 Academy Award for "Can You Feel the Love Tonight" from The Lion King, the 2000 Tony Award for Aida and six Grammy Awards, including the Legend Award (1999). He has also been a Kennedy Center Honoree (2004). After scoring Top 40 hits for a remarkable 26 consecutive years, beginning in 1970, John performed "Candle in the Wind" at the funeral of Princess Diana (1997). Originally dedicated to Marilyn Monroe, the new version of "Candle" became his biggest hit ever, selling three million copies in the first week of its release. The singer, songwriter and musician was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and he was twice honored in his native country:  created a CBE in 1996 and knighted in 1998 for his contributions to music and AIDS research. John continues to tour to sell-out crowds. Slightly creased. Minor pinhead-size spot at lower left blank area. Fine condition. Authenticated by Roger Epperson.
