4½x7. Denmark Hill, Surrey, 1884 April 5. On black-bordered imprinted
stationery, likely to Mr. Edmisson. In full: "Sir Henry Bessemer has
great pleasure in acceding to Mr Edmisson's request." Prolific English
inventor and engineer Henry Bessemer (1813-1898) is best known for developing
the Bessemer process, the manufacture of steel by the decarbonization of melted
pig iron by means of a blast of air. Bessemer, who developed the Bessemer
furnace in 1855, was knighted in 1879. Slightly creased. Mounting remnants on
verso (no show through). Fine condition.
