JOHN E. SULSTON
The Nobel Prize winner (Physiology or Medicine, 2002) signs a 4x6 photo of a Nobel
medallion
Photograph signed: "John Sulston". Color, 4x6. Photograph of a medal struck for the 100th
anniversary of the Nobel Prizes. John Sulston (1942-2018) of Great Britain won the Nobel
Prize in Physiology or Medicine in 2002 for his contribution to the Human Genome Project
and earlier contributions to mapping the genome sequence of the nematode. In 1992, Sulston
became first Director of the Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute, the United Kingdom's
contribution to the Human Genome Project, expanding the Institute from 15 staffers in
temporary labs to a staff of 600 in modern facilities. He was knighted in 2001. Sulston has
waged a campaign to prevent private patenting of human genome research and to keep
scientific discoveries in the public domain. Light diagonal crease at upper right corner. Minor
surface creases (not evident head-on). Fine condition.
