Autograph Letter signed: "J Fayrer", 2p with blank integral leaf, 3¾x5¾. No place, no date. To "Dear Sir", in full: "Dr. F. newest address is the Atheneum Club. Regarding Sir [1 word illegible] address I am sorry to say I do not know - but I think asking at Navy Club will help you find his. Sincerely". Accompanied by unmailed envelope (4¾x3¾) hand addressed by Fayrer to "Dr Russell Reynolds". Sir Joseph Fayrer (1824-1907), an English surgeon, served the British military in campaigns in the Mediterranean and South Asia. He taught surgery at the Medical College in Calcutta (1859-1872). A member of the Royal Society who was made a baron in 1896, Fayrer wrote extensively on Indian medical practices and on the poisonous snakes of that country. Lightly soiled. Penmanship very difficult to decipher. Otherwise, fine condition.
