Richard Attenborough sends a typed letter of regret that he will not be able to be a judge.
Typed Letter Signed: "Richard Attenborough", 1p, 5¼x8. On letterhead of Charter Film Productions, Ltd. London, England, 1957 September 27. To E. Donald Grant, Whitton, England. In full: "My wife and I would like to thank you for your letter inviting us to judge the 'Miss Thames Valley' Contest at the Ball on the 5th October. It is very kind of you to ask us, but I am afraid we shall not be able to accept your invitation as I shall be starting a new series of B.B.C. record programmes [sic] on that evening. With our very best wishes that the Ball will be a great success." British actor Attenborough (1923-2014), knighted in 1976, has been equally praised as an actor and director. Acclaimed acting roles include Brighton Rock (1947), The Great Escape (1963), The Sand Pebbles (1966), Jurassic Park (1993) and Elizabeth (1998). Directorial successes include A Bridge Too Far (1977), Gandhi (1982), Cry Freedom (1987) and Shadowlands (1993). He is the brother of naturalist David Attenborough. Lightly creased.
