London, 1982 October 18. On letterhead of the Winston Churchill Memorial
Trust to "Dear Margery". In full: "Here is a belated reply to
your letter. I am sorry I have no photos available at the moment. I am no longer
a soldier but run the Trust and am Chairman of a London Health Authority, which
keeps me very busy. Good luck with your collection. Yours sincerely". Sir
Roy Michael Frederick Redgrave (1925-2011) joined the Royal Horse Guards in
1943, supervised the equestrian displays at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth
II, and took command of the Royal Horse Guards in 1964. He was Commandant of
the Royal Armored Corps Center (1974) and British Sector Berlin (1975). His
last command was the British garrison in Hong Kong. Knighted following
his retirement (1980), he became Director General of the Churchill Memorial
Trust, as he notes here. Redgrave was a member of the famed acting
family, the cousin of actors Vanessa, Lynn and Corin Redgrave, the nephew of
Michael Redgrave, and the grandson and namesake of patriarch Roy Redgrave.
