STIRLING CRAUFORD MOSSFormula One racer sends a thank you letter to a fan Typed letter signed: "Stirling Moss" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. London, England, April 22, 1988. To "Dear Gene and Brenda,", in full: "Thank you very much for your letter of April 15th. I was sorry to read that you had both suffered such awful health problems. Modern medicine is truly amazing and I guess we all have good reasons to be extremely grateful for it. I have pleasure in enclosing a signed photo which I very much hope will fit in well with the rest of your collection [item not included]. Good luck with your hobby. I close sending my best wishes and hope that you will both stay well and happy. Yours sincerely," Sir Stirling Crauford Moss (1929-2020) is a former Formula One racing driver, often remembered as the greatest driver never to win the World Championship. Born into a well-off family in England, Moss raced for almost fifteen years from 1948 to 1962, winning 212 of the 529 races he entered, once competing in 62 races in a single year. His cars included over 84 different makes of Lotus, Vanwall, Maserati, Jaguar, Ferrari and Porsche. Moss was inducted into the International Motorsports Hall of Fame in 1990 and was knighted in 2000 for his services to Motor Racing. The phrase "Why do you think you are, Stirling Moss?" is still a common joke used by police officers stopping speeding motorist in Great Britain. Normal mailing folds. Fine condition.
