Accompanied by an intact but unsigned hardcover copy of his autobiography Original Art inscribed and signed: "Greetings from/Labrador -/by Wilfred T. Grenfell/to Rex Auchincloss/1933", 6¼x9½, matted to 8½x11¼. The mat can be opened to show the title page for this book, Forty Years for Labrador, by Grenfell, and additional pages, including a printed photo of him. Edges damaged and stained from what appears to be a fire. Accompanied by his unsigned autobiography, A Labrador Doctor . Boston: Houghton Mifflin. Hardcover. Corners worn; otherwise, fine condition. British missionary Sir Wilfred Grenfell (1865-1940) was a surgeon on a hospital ship that served the North Sea fisheries and was a member of the Mission to Deep Sea Fishermen. In 1892, he went to Labrador, founding hospitals, orphanages and other social services as well as fitting hospital ships for the fishing grounds. Sir Wilfred Grenfell College, Newfoundland, is named for him. Two items.
