Book Plate signed: "Wm. Blackstone/Coll. Pemb./Oxford/1741", 1 page, 3x5¼ to which his printed book plate is attached, 2x2½. Both are attached to a larger sheet 4¼x7½. On this page in an unknown hand: "This autograph is on the title page of/a book which was Blackstone's when/at Pembroke College, Oxford." Seven line biography penned in unknown hand at bottom of larger sheet. Sir William Blackstone, called to the Bar in 1746, gave his first university lectures on English law in 1753 and was the first professor of English Law at Oxford (1758-1763). His lectures formed the basis for the famed Commentaries on the Laws of England (1765-1769), which deeply influenced jurisprudence and the growth of common law. From 1770-1780, Blackstone was Judge of Common Pleas. Signature page is foxed, soiled, stained and creased. ½-inch vertical tear at lower right corner.
