WILLIAM GOLDING
Signed hardcover copy of his celebrated novel, Lord of the Flies
Book signed: "William Golding" 180 pages, 5¾x8½. Lord of the Flies, by William Golding. (N.Y: Coward, McCann & Geoghegan, Inc., 1962. Hardcover with dust jacket. Signed in blue ballpoint on the half-title page. William Golding (1911-1993) won the 1983 Nobel Prize in Literature "for his novels which, with the perspicuity of realistic narrative art and the diversity and universality of myth, illuminate the human condition in the world of today". He is best known for his 1954 novel, Lord of the Flies. Golding's novels are allegorical, with a very pessimistic view of humanity. Other prominent works include The Spire (1964), Darkness Visible (1979) and the posthumously published Double Tongue. His personal favorite was The Inheritors (1955), which portrays the last Neanderthals, killed off by the malevolent successor species: us! Slight scattered light wear to dust jacket and unobtrusive dab of purple paint to the lower edges of the pages and jacket. Otherwise, fine condition.
