25th, the first Skylab crew, confusingly called the Skylab 2 mission, was launched, returning
to Earth on June 22, 1973. It made repairs to Skylab, and conducted medical experiments.
PAUL WEITZ was the pilot on this mission He would later command STS-6 (April 4,
1983 to April 9, 1983), the maiden flight of the Space Shuttle Challenger. JOE KERWIN,
a medical doctor, was the science pilot on this mission. Charles Conrad, Jr. (1930-1999),
who had walked on the moon in 1969, was the third member of the Skylab 2 team. The
Skylab 3 mission performed systems and operational tests and thermal shield deployment
(July 28-September 25, 1973). JACK LOUSMA, an aeronautical engineer and Marine recon
pilot, was the pilot of Skylab-3, performing 11 hours of space walk on that mission. In
March 1982, Lousma flew the space shuttle on its final orbital test flight. In 1984 he
narrowly lost a bid for a US Senate seat from Michigan. ALAN BEAN (1932-2018) was
Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 12 in November 1969, and the fourth man to walk on the
Moon. Bean was Spacecraft Commander of Skylab 3. OWEN GARRIOTT, an electrical
engineer, traveled to Skylab on this mission and spent a then record 60 days in space aboard
the station, conducting repairs while studying the sun, the earth's resources, and the effects of
prolonged weightlessness. In 1983, he made a 10-day flight aboard Space Shuttle Columbia.
Skylab 4 (November 16, 1973-February 8, 1974 successfully completed 56 experiments, 26
science demonstrations, 15 subsystem-detailed objectives and 13 student investigations during
their 1,214 revolutions of the Earth. GERALD P. "JERRY" CARR (1932-2020) was
commander of this third and final manned visit to the Skylab Orbital Workshop.
WILLIAM "BILL" POGUE, a Korean War veteran and a former member of the Air
Force Thunderbirds, was a member of the astronaut support crews for Apollo missions 7, 11
and 14. He was the pilot on the Skylab-4 mission. Edward Gibson was the third member of
this last Skylab crew. Fine condition.
