SLIM BRYANT
The country singer and songwriter signs this letter to a fan thanking him for a kind letter and mentioning he will turn 100 years old that year, so to excuse his handwriting
Autograph letter signed: “'Slim' Bryant” in black ink. 5½x6½. November 5, 2008. Written on note paper to “Dear Mr. Dutcher”, in full:Thank you for your kind letter- and comment! I am happy to send you my autograph- Please excuse my printing but I don't write well as I will be 100 on Dec. 7. My best to you and yours.Postscript:P.S. I guess I don't have a favorite recording but my song 'Thunder Storm' shows up my guys well.Thomas Hoyt Bryant (1908-2010), known professionally as Slim Bryant, was an American country music singer-songwriter, guitarist and radio personality. After spending nearly nine years working with Georgia fiddler Clayton McMichen as part of the Georgia Wildcats, Bryant and most of the band moved to Pittsburgh in 1940 where they became regulars on KDKA's new early morning Farm Hour. The Wildcats performed on the first television program to air in Pittsburgh in 1949. In 1932, Jimmie Rodgers recorded the song, "Mother, the Queen of My Heart", which was written by Bryant, with Bryant accompanying him on guitar. Rodgers not only gave him writing credit but listed his name first, which is rare for big stars. With the Wildcats, he wrote and recorded novelty songs such as "Eeny Meeny Dixie Deeny", which was the closest he ever came to having a hit on the Billboard charts. Corners rounded and creased. Normal mailing folds. Torn return address sticker affixed to top edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
