Singer, actor, director, producer and writer THORNTON, born William Robert Thornton in
Hot Springs, Arkansas in 1955, began his show business career as a singer and musician in Tres
Hombres, a band that once opened for Hank Williams, Jr. After moving to Hollywood, he
appeared in one film, One False Move (1992), which he co-wrote with childhood friend, Tom
Epperson, but he found stardom after writing, directing and starring in Sling Blade
(1996), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay and was
nominated for the Best Actor Oscar. Thornton has since been nominated for the Best
Supporting Actor Oscar for A Simple Plan (1998) and for Golden Globes for The Man
Who Wasn't There (2001), Bandits (2001) and Bad Santa (2003). His other film credits

1956, is a country singer and songwriter with 10 studio albums that have placed in the top

drama as well as comedy with Sling Blade (1996) and Panic (2000), his real forte was TV
comedy. His later shows included Hooperman (1987-1989), Hearts Afire (1992-1995) and
