8x10. Smith Ballew (1902-1984), born Sykes Ballew, was a popular
bandleader and vocalist of the 1920s. Many members of his band went on to
become big names of the swing era, including Buddy Berrigan, Jack Teagarden and
Glenn Miller (who was Ballew's manager and arranger from 1929 to1934.
After dubbing John Wayne's voice for two films (including The Man from
Utah), Ballew began appearing on film as a singing cowboy himself. His
film credits extended from Palm Springs (1936) to I Killed
Geronimo (1950), with an un-credited part in The Red Badge of Courage
(1951). Signature lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise, fine
condition.
