SOME LIKE IT HOT MOVIE CAST
A classic American comedy.
Poster reprint signed: "Tony Curtis" and "Jack Lemmon", 11x17. Some Like It Hot (1959) is the story of two unemployed musicians who witness the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago. They disguise themselves as women and join an all-girl band headed for Miami to escape. Originally cast mainly for his good looks, CURTIS (1925-2010), showed real acting talent in such films as The Defiant Ones (1958), Some Like It Hot (1959) and - cast against type - in The Boston Strangler (1968). Later in his career, he preferred to play comic roles. He is the father of actress Jamie Leigh Curtis. A private school-educated everyman who could play outrageous comedy and wrenching tragedy, Jack Lemmon (1925-2001) burst onto the movie scene as a 1950s Columbia contract player and remained a beloved star until his death. Whether through humor or pathos, he excelled at illuminating the struggles of average men against a callous world; as director Billy Wilder once noted, "There was a little bit of genius in everything he did." Lemmon won the 1955 Best Supporting Actor Academy Award for his role as Ensign Pulver in Mister Roberts. He also won the 1973 Academy Award for Best Actor for portraying garment manufacturer Harry Stoner in Save the Tiger. Lemmon received Best Actor Oscar nominations for Some Like It Hot, The Apartment, Days of Wine and Roses, The China Syndrome, Tribute and Missing. On June 4, 1999, the American Film Institute announced the results of their poll of a panel of 1800 people in the industry as to the 100 funniest American movies. Some Like It Hot topped the list!
