SONJA HENIE
She inscribed this photo of herself shown wearing a jeweled tiara in person to collector Saul Goodman
Inscribed Printed Photograph signed in Ink: "To Saul/ With all my best wishes/ Sonja Henie" in black ink, b/w, 8x10. Collector's ink stamp on verso dates signature: January 3, 1937. Sonja Henie (1912-1969) was a Norwegian skating star who won three gold medals in women's singles figure skating in the 1928, 1932, and 1936 Winter Olympics. Already a wealthy woman when she signed with 20th Century-Fox in 1936, she became one of the studio's biggest box office attractions in Hollywood musicals such as One in a Million (1937), Thin Ice (1937), Sun Valley Serenade (1941), and Wintertime (1943). Later in her career, she performed to sell-out crowds in Hollywood Ice Revues at Madison Square Garden and appeared on television skating specials. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Light surface marks and creases. Slightly stained at left edge. Otherwise, fine condition.
