With four measures and lyrics to Curtis' hit song I Fought the Law on photocopied music bars. Titled: "I Fought the Law/By: Sonny Curtis". Curtis, born in 1937, is a country songwriter. He's probably best known for writing the hit I Fought the Law, which Curtis first played in 1959 with the post-Buddy Holly Crickets in 1959 and has been covered numerous times by acts as diverse as the Clash, Lou Reed, Green Day, Waylon Jennings, the Sex Pistols, the Grateful Dead, Tom Petty, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen and the Dead Kennedys. He also wrote Love Is All Around, the theme song for The Mary Tyler Moore Show. Curtis also played for Buddy Holly's band the Three Tunes in 1956. He left before Holly formed the Crickets in 1957, but briefly joined after Holly's death in 1959 as lead guitarist and singer. He was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1991.
