SPACE SHUTTLE ATLANTIS: STS-38 MISSION
Commemorative Envelope signed by all 5 crew members of the classified mission: Covey, Culbertson, Springer, Meade and Gemar
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Rich Covey", "F L Culbertson", "Carl Meade", "Charles D. Gemar/'Sam'", "Bob Springer", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Kennedy Space Center, November 15, 1990. Space shuttle mission STS-38, the 37th shuttle mission and the seventh for Atlantis, was launched the Kennedy Space Center on November 15,1990, and returned Kennedy Space Center on November 20, the first space shuttle mission since 1985 to land in Florida. This 4-day, 2 million mile, dedicated Department of Defense mission orbited the Earth 79 times. The classified payload reportedly included an electronic intelligence-gathering satellite, and probably a stealth satellite, code-named Prowler, designed to spy on other nations' satellites. RICHARD O. COVEY was mission Commander, FRANK L. CULBERSON, JR. the Pilot. The Mission Specialists were ROBERT C. SPRINGER, CARL J. MEADE and CHARLES D. "SAM" GEMAR. It was Covey's third spaceflight, Springer's second. "Springer" signature lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
