SPACE SHUTTLE CHALLENGER: STS-51F MISSION
Commemorative Envelope signed by the Payload Specialists: Acton, Bartoe, Simon and Prinz
Commemorative Envelope signed: "George Simon", "John Bartoe", "George W. Simon", "Dianne Prinz", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Cape Canaveral, Florida, July 29, 1985. Space shuttle mission STS-51G, commanded by Gordon Fullerton, the nineteenth orbital flight and the eighth flight of Challenger, was launched from Cape Canaveral's Kennedy Space Center on July 29, 1985 and returned to Edwards Air Force Base on August 6. While STS-51-F's primary payload was the Spacelab-2 module, the payload which received the most publicity was the Carbonated Beverage Dispenser Evaluation, involving sodas specially canned by rivals Coca-Cola and Pepsi. The Spacelab experiments included life sciences; astronomy and astrophysics, and plasma physics. The flight tested a new Instrument Pointing System and an infrared telescope. Physicist LOREN ACTON and astrophysicist JOHN-DAVID BARTOE ascended in the shuttle, while GEORGE W. SIMON and DIANNE PRINZ, their backups, supported the mission from the ground. Signatures lightly beaded but legible. Otherwise, fine condition.
