SPACE SHUTTLE COLUMBIA: STS-80 MISSION
Commemorative Envelope signed by four crew members: Cockrell, Rominger, Jernigan and Jones
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Ken Cockrell", "Kent V. Rominger", "Tamara Jernigan", "Thomas D. Jones", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Kennedy Space Center, November 19 and December 7, 1996. Space shuttle mission STS-80 launched from the Kennedy Space Center on November 19, 1996 and returned to the same site on December 7, making this the longest duration of any shuttle flight. Columbia deployed and then recaptured two satellites: the ORFEUS, containing an array of spectrographic telescopes; and the Wake-Shield Facility, used for creating semiconductor thin films. Although a variety of other scientific experiments were conducted successfully, two projected spacewalks were cancelled due to a malfunctioning hatch door. The crew was composed of Commander KENNETH COCKRELL; Pilot KENT V. ROMINGER; AND Mission Specialists TAMARA JERNIGAN, THOMAS D. JONES and Story Musgrave (who did not sign this piece.) This was an all-veteran crew, every member of the flight having ascended on a previous shuttle. Fine condition.
