SPACE SHUTTLE DISCOVERY: STS-29 MISSION
Commemorative Envelope signed by all five crew members: Coats, Blaha, Bagian, Buchli and Springer, and by fellow astronaut Anna Lee Fisher
Commemorative Envelope signed: "Michael L. Coats", "John Blaha", "Bob Sprinter", "James F. Buchli", "Anna Lee Fisher", "J.Bagian", 6½x3½. Envelope postmarked Kennedy Space Center, May 13, 1989. Space shuttle mission STS-29, the 28th orbital flight and the eighth flight of Discovery, was launched from Kennedy Space Center on May 13, 1989 and returned to Edwards Air Force Base on May 18. This, the third shuttle voyage following the Challenger disaster, inserted a Tracking and Data Relay Satellite into Earth orbit. This mission is of special interest to UFO enthusiasts, who claim that STS-29 was closely observed by an unknown spacecraft, but NASA dismisses alleged radio transmissions on this subject as a hoax. The crew was composed of Commander MICHAEL L. COATS; Pilot JOHN F. BLAHA; AND Mission Specialists JAMES P. BAGIAN, JAMES F. BUCHLI and ROBERT C. SPRINTER. It was the first spaceflight for Lee, the second for Blaha, Bagian and Springer, the second for Coats, and the third for Buchli. ANNA LEE FISHER, not a member of the STS-29 crew, had gone into space on Discovery in 1984 (the first mother in space, and still a NASA administrator), has also signed. Fine condition.
